ABOUT ME

Many of my past memories stem from my love of Leeds United and travel - often combining both!

I attended my first Leeds United match in 1961 and my first overseas visit was in 1971 - to watch Leeds United!

Sadly, 2020 was the first year I did not travel overseas and also wasn't allowed to attend my first Leeds game - for over 40 years - both due to Covid restrictions.

Through my travels following football, my passion for travelling grew and I have now visited most areas of the world.

I have currently visited 144 'official' countries (Member States of the United Nations) plus a number of other territories, taking photographs and often writing blogs of my experiences.

Hopefully you will be encouraged to continue looking through my website - seeing pictures taken on my travels in these countries and to read about my adventures in my blogs.

Regards

Roy

MY TOP 10

I am often asked which is the best country I have visited - but how do you evaluate the best country?

There are many things to take into consideration… people, scenery, food, culture, history, personal reasons for visiting etc.

I guess it would be like you having 142 meals then someone asking you which was best!

So, after some consideration I have compiled a list (alphabetically) of my top 10 countries - maybe not the best as such, but the countries I most enjoyed visiting.

Remember this is based on whatever I have perceived to be the positives and may be purely because of the area I visited.

Brazil

Cambodia

Chile

Cuba

Greece

Iceland

Israel and Palestinian Territories

North Korea

Peru

Tuvalu

I may - at some future date - make changes to the list as I re-evaluate!

MY CAMBODIAN FAMILY

The date 28th March 2011, will always stay in my mind.

I was in Cambodia, on the coast at a place called Sihanoukville resting with a drink on the beach. A young guy approached me asking if he could make a woollen bracelet for me. That chance meeting certainly changed my life in many ways - and hopefully changed his family's lives for the better.

I hope you will read the web pages I have developed over the years that I have known them. It will give you a big insight as to how others live - and how that meeting led to special friendships.
